The Back 40 Band...is taking a break for the forseeable future....
Note: As of the end of January, 2007, the band will be taking a break and will not be performing until further notice.
Our Music
The Back 40 Band plays what the Back 40 radio show plays - traditional Country, Western and Bluegrass music. Their musical repertoire is an eclectic mix of Canadian and American material, old and recent, famous and not yet famous - plenty of variety to get toes tapping with even an occasional sing-along. An original tune and lyric could also turn up unexpectedly as some of band members also write their own material.
The Band has entertained at a variety of events including:
- The Black Sheep/Mouton Noir in Wakefield Québec.
- The "Ship Pub" in St.John's Newfoundland (with guest banjoist Neil Rosenberg, member of "Crooked Stovepipe", Professor of Folklore at Memorial University, and author of the definitive History of Bluegrass Music.
- Lake Dore Jamboree
- Pakenham "Five Span Jamboree"
- Balderson United Church in Balderson Ontario
- Career Services Christmas Party (Brockville, Ontario, Dec.03)
- Cindy Sidock and the Cats - Open Stage at Krystals in Renfrew ("Headliners")
- The Valley 'Grass Winter Concert Series" (opening for "Kanes River")
- St. Vincents Hospital
- Elizabeth Bruyère Hospital
- Kilian Lodge
- Steff-Kim Lodge
- Sandy Hill Retirement Home
- Stanley Apartments Seniors Residence in Metcalfe
- Smithvale Stables Heart and Stroke Benefit
- Kemptville Forest Fair
- Kemptville Legion
- Westboro Legion
- The Angus Barn (Carleton Place)
- Rasputin's
- Amateur Radio Club of Ottawa's Christmas Party
- Agriculture Canada - Employee's Picnic
- CKCU - Live in the Studio and on the outdoor stage on campus.
In addition, Ron performs solo from time to time, at venues such as the Westboro Legion, The Lake Doré Jamboree, The Naismith Pub in Almonte and for benefits, such as the "Norman Squires Foundation Country Music Benefit" at the Rideau Carleton Raceway. Last August, Ron sang with some Newfoundland artist friends (Atlantic Union's Andrew Lang and Stan Picket), at Auntie Crae's in St.John's and at the "Ship Pub", home of the St.John's Folk Art's Council.
